The Many Accomplishments of Dr. Scott Rocklage

For the most part, people can be split into two categories: Those who skate by doing the bare minimum to survive and those who constantly push themselves to achieve more. Without question, Dr. Scott Rocklage of 5AM Ventures falls into the latter category. From a very young age, Rocklage exhibited a drive and perseverance that pushed him ever onward. This tendency continued through college and into his professional career, where it has served him remarkably well. Few people can hope to achieve even a fraction of the many things that Scott Rocklage has accomplished–and he probably still has plenty of tricks left up his sleeves.

Let’s begin our examination of Scott Rocklage’s many accomplishments by considering his educational achievements. By all accounts, Rocklage was a serious and dedicated student even during secondary school. He maintained a high GPA and remained involved in a number of extracurricular activities throughout high school. Not surprisingly, he was accepted into the highly competitive University of California at Berkeley. There, he graduated with a bachelor of science in chemistry. Rocklage hadn’t had his fill of chemistry just yet, though. He decided to pursue his PhD, and he was thrilled when he was accepted into the fiercely competitive graduate program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT.

At MIT, Dr. Scott Rocklage forged many connections that would serve him well in the years to come. In particular, he was fortunate enough to work under Richard R. Schrock in the famous Schrock group. Schrock went on to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005, so it is safe to say that Rocklage was in excellent company. His time at MIT convinced him that he wanted to work on the bench chemistry side of things, but he would ultimately change his tune after getting out into the real world.

Leaving the world of academia is often difficult, but Scott Rocklage moved gracefully from grad school into the professional world. Since he thought that he wanted to focus on chemistry, he took a position leading a small research team that studied a process that is known as homogeneous catalysis. As with all of his endeavors, he poured his heart and soul into the work. Ultimately, however, he realized that he would have more opportunities to affect real change by moving over to the business side of things. Thanks to his many great connections and contacts, making this move wasn’t as difficult as it otherwise might have been and learn more about Scott.

Dr. Scott Rocklage’s first foray into the world of life science and medicine occurred when he assumed the role of CEO of a company that specialized in MRI contrast agents. This is when Rocklage’s passion for developing innovative new products and treatments was born. Since he is naturally passionate about these subjects, he quickly became a valued member of the community. Again, this networking helped to lay the foundation for his later work as a venture capitalist, which is what he continues to do to this very day and more information click here.

Scott Rocklage came on board with 5AM Ventures in 2003. Initially, he came on as a venture partner. Just a year later, however, in 2004, he moved up to become a managing partner. This reflects the fact that he was clearly a natural fit for this type of work. His background includes educational and business experiences that make him especially well suited for helping organizations get the funding and capital that they need. Rocklage is adept at getting down to the essence of an issue, and he is known for having a very effective hands-on approach to working.

Thus far, we have learned that Scott Rocklage established himself early on with a strong education and many great business experiences. However, it is also safe to say that he naturally possesses certain traits that have served him well through the years. In particular, Rocklage is well known for his organization. He has said in interviews that he believes that much of his success is owed to exceptional time management and calendaring. What this all means is that even though he is a hard worker by nature, Rocklage learned early on that to really get anywhere, you need to know how to prioritize things and how to stay organized.

Although Dr. Scott Rocklage has a very fascinating career and educational background, there is more to him than work, research and studying. Rocklage has been happily married to his lovely wife Patty for many decades. A successful therapist, Patty has stood by her husband and has been an instrumental force in his success. The couple has three adult children who have all established themselves and are making names for themselves. They split their time between homes in Sudbury, MA, and Jupiter, FL. For fun, they especially enjoy golfing and are fortunate to live within close proximity of many great golf clubs and courses and Scott’s lacrosse camp.
